Tutorial Number 2 - DFA Office

I'm pleased with how the tutorial went today, I think that I gained a lot of constructive feedback and a lot of food for thought.

I started the tutorial by showing and explaining the concept for both the main site and the 'entry pages' and explaining my reasoning behind each of my decisions.

These where the main points that where raised; issues that I should consider and address for Thursday and the final pitch:

  • The general feel of the aesthetic of the site is fresh and striking; giving a new slant on the current feel of charity sites.
  • A nice focal point for my idea is the idea of minimising content and making the site easy to use and navigate around.
  • The different ways of the navigating the site are effective; hiding and uncovering information when you roll over it.
  • Nice idea to archive footage so that if you see more than one video you like you don't have to worry about forgetting where it was, and messing around trying to find it again.
  • Some way of 'archiving/ recording' donations and support of people, show how much they have donated and could this involve seeing how much friends how donated and what content they like? (another tab - my support?)
  • The idea of using the word 'support' rather than donate is effective?
  • the appropriateness of the start 'game' does it put up a wall for people coming onto the site ? Does it put them off straight away. Re think its application, where could it be used instead of on the site; could it be used as a way of getting people to the site? Through a banner ad or on another site?
  • Think of different ways that someone can access the site. The great thing about websites is they can have more than one access point.
  • What about giving someone the option to go straight to the research project and donate, not everyone wants to explore!
  • Nice word - EXPLORE! one of two ways to get onto the site (Introduction page)
  • Possibly make more use of the icons, come up with a series of icons for the site; could these be universal around it? no matter where you are there always there.
I think these are enough points to start things about; some good and some constructive. I think the next stage is to start to look at how the My Channel will look, how I can give more than one access point to the site, how I can use the start sequence in another application and creating a more original series of icons.
